Cape Town Driving Tour : What To See And Do

If you fancy a road trip round somewhere exotic then you might like to consider checking out car hire in Cape Town, South Africa.

Not only does it have a truly breathtaking landscape and a plethora of shops, bars and restaurants, it’s also home to the incredible Table Mountain, numerous wildlife parks and plenty of top class beaches. If you like the sound of this touring this part of South Africa in a hire car, read on…

There’s so much to do and see in Cape Town that it’s tough to know where to start, but if you fancy diving in at the deep end you can take yourself straight over to the Table Mountain National Park… here you can climb the legendary mountain itself, drive through the game reserves and witness the ferocious wildlife at Lions Head or wander peacefully through the rare fynbos vegetation exclusive to this region.

You might also want to consider heading out to one of the many sandy beaches to relax and soak up the natural beauty of the Western Cape. The Atlantic Seaboard and West Coast beaches, just a short car journey away, are broad, open beaches ideal for water sports. If you want something more sheltered spot then your best bet is False Bay, a much calmer and warmer setting, also just a short trip away by car.

Another option is to head out onto the Cape Peninsula. Drive through the majestic scenery of the Cape of Good Hope, or head over to Boulders Beach for a memorable experience – this is a natural colony for penguins and you can actually drive through and see the animals up close and personal. Bear in mind that they are well use to humans so they might not necessarily make way, and remember to keep you hands to yourself as they might end up as penguin food otherwise!

Other worthwhile destinations within driving distance include Port Elizabeth in the Cape Floral region, home to a myriad of exotic flora and vegetation, and the Cape Winelands to the north east of the city. Here you can wander the vineyards and sample the grape of Cape Town in one of the many fine restaurants in the area. Wine connoisseurs may well recognise some of the brands brewed in the area, such as Nederburg, Vergelegen and Zevenwacht, to name but a few.

Of course this is all just a snapshot of the things you can do in and around Cape Town – this city itself is a quality destination with a long stretch of beach on the waterfront and a buzzing nightlife. Book Car Hire in Cape Town and investigate it yourself if you think we’re exaggerating – you won’t be disappointed.
