Cultural Tour of Ireland – Galway Sessions

Galway is Irelands 4th largest city and is often through of as the cultural capital of the country. The Galway Sessions festival will be taking place in Mid June. This festival consists of a large number of trad bands playing in a variety of venues located throughout the city.

Galway Sessions is running from the 15th of June to the 22nd. The Sessions will be taking place in a number of venues including The Crane Bar, Róisín Dubh, the Galway City Museum, the Quay’s and a number of other locations.

Throughout this week of musical sessions you will encounter the music of such groups as Kinlochard & Tulla Céilí Bands for some céilí dancing, The Girls of Letterfrack, the meteor award winner Juliet Turner, Eddi Reader with special guest Noelie McDonnell, and Feargal Scahill who is launching a CD of his music.

In addition to Irish music there will also be bands from Scotland playing and they shall be playing their own version of music that shares common roots with Irish music. Further international additions include musicians coming from as far afield as Hamburg and Bolivia!

How to get there: The events are taking place throughout Galway City over the course of the Festival. The central office from which you can organise yourself and book gigs is located in the Redlight Records, Eglington Street which is just off Eyre Square in Galway City Centre.
