Cultural Ireland – Carlsberg Comedy Carnival
Dublin will be hosting its own comedy festival again this year in the Iveagh Gardens, and it was such a success before they have added an extra day! Ireland is home to a somewhat unique sense of wit but you can be sure that the international acts at this carnival will have your sides splitting with equal intensity.
The Carlsberg Comedy Carnival will be kicking off on Thursday 24th of July and will be running for the whole weekend until Sunday 27th. The event will be taking place in a number of venues, the Iveagh Theatre, the Shack, the Magic Mirrors Palace and the Comedy Factory; all within the Iveagh Gardens. These all-seated venues will be hosting 50 shows which will feature over 60 comedians who have been drawn from all over Ireland and also the world!
Some of the big names you can expect to see on the festival billings includes Des Bishop, The Tommy & Hector Show, Lee Mack, Ardal O’Hanlon, The Stars of ‘Whose Line is it Anyway’ with special guest Phill Jupitus, The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, Jason Byrne, PJ Gallagher, Maeve Higgins, Apres Match, Phil Nichol, and many more. In addition to the big names there will also be a number of first timers who are looking to break the big time.
In addition to the comedy acts there will also be some music and other carnival entertainment to keep you distracted in between the shows. Please remember though that this is an Over-18s event only so no bringing the kids along.
How to get there: Dublin is located about half way up the eastern coast of Ireland and it also serves as the capital of the country. The Iveagh Gardens is located just to the south of Saint Stephens Green. From the city centre all you have to do is head south across the river and past Trinity College. Here you should find Grafton Street (Dublin’s most famous shopping street) and at the end of the street you will find Saint Stephens Green.
