How to get to the Yarra Valley Wine Region from Melbourne
If you’re based in Melbourne, a great way to spend the day is to take a trip to the Yarra Valley Wine Region. It’s located just a short drive from Melbourne, in the Victoria State, and it’s home to some of the country’s best-known wineries. There’s also plenty of attractions in the region as well as breathtaking scenery. What more could you ask for!
If you are looking for a place of scenic beauty that offers tranquillity, less than an hours drive from Melbourne city centre, then you should really consider a trip the Yarra Valley.
The Yarra Valley is responsible for the production of some of the best wines in the world. It’s universally known as being one of the top grape growing areas, in a rich fertile valley with some of the best soil for grape production, fertilized by the flowing Yarra River, in a cool climate.
The Yarra Valley region is littered with orchards, gardens, extensive vineyards and farms dedicated solely to the growing of flowers. The lush green Dandenong Mountain ranges, extending to over 500 metres and offering so much to tourists, surround the area.
How to get to the Yarra Valley from Melbourne…
From the city – The Yarra Valley is just 50km from Melbourne city centre, a driving distance of around an hour. You should take the Eastern Freeway (83) from the city and take the exit at Nunawading.
From here, veer right onto Spingvale Road and then left onto the Whitehorse Road, and as you travel on this road it will make its way to the Maroondah Highway. Keep on this Highway onto Lilydale and make your way to Healesville on the B360. If you want to head right into Yarra Glen, then you should get onto the Melba Highway at Coldstream.
From the airport – If you’re coming from Melbourne Airport, take the Tullamarine Freeway (43) to the city for around 5km, and then bear left onto the Western Ring Road (M80). You should follow the signs for Greensborough, and as you leave the Tullamarine Freeway, watch the road signs for Hurstbridge (46) and go through Diamond Creek.
Then you’ll come to the Wattle Glen roundabout; take the Number 9 road to Kangaroo Ground. Get onto the C728 and follow the signs for the Eltham-Yarra Glen Road (C726), and follow through. The Bell Street Route (B300) will take you directly into Yarra Glen town.
