New Ferry Route opens from UK to Spain
UK holidaymakers can now travel to Spain through a new service, which commenced recently. Brittany Ferries have launched a new route from March 27th, linking Portsmouth with Bilbao. The service, which is twice weekly will serve the northern Spanish city and will provide accommodation and high quality service onboard.
The new route will be in addition to Brittany Ferries’ other services to Spain bringing the total crossings to five weekly. There will now be two crossings from Portsmouth to Bilbao, two from Portsmouth to Santander and another from Plymouth to Santander.
When passengers arrive in Bilbao, they will have access to Spain’s A8 motorway, which is just a short distance from the ferry terminal. This motorway connects Bilbao with Madrid, The Costa Brava and southern Spain.
Many passengers were left stranded last year when the ash cloud made it impossible for flights to take off from Spain and Britain. This service is now well placed to catch airline business should there be a repetition of this. There has also been a decline in the number of airline passengers from the UK to Spain in recent times and a noted increase in demand for ferry crossings.
Some of the many features of the new ferry, the Cap Finistère include a children’s playground and a dog walking area. In addition to this are ten pet friendly cabins. It seems that more and more people are attracted to the comfort and facilities offered by this cruise-ferry. Will you be availing of this service? Why would you choose it over a flight?
