Families Should Get Measles Jab Before Travelling

Vaccination against the measles is being strongly advised for UK families following a sharp rise in cases of the virus across a number of European countries. Those travelling to the destinations in question should act immediately to immunise their children.

A number of European countries has seen a rise in cases of the virus in recent times, in particular France, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands and Turkey. Health authorities in the United Kingdom are advising 2 doses of MMR for children. The Health Protection Agency is also advising adults who may have had only one dose of vaccination to consider another for maximum protection.

“The HPA is issuing advice to schools and health professionals on measles and recommends that children are fully immunised with two doses of MMR before travelling to Europe for holidays,” a spokeswoman confirmed.
